Steinbach, Styria

The Strauss wine estate started in 1810 under the name “Shopper”. In 1948, Karl and Johanna Strauss took over the business, which their son Karl, who graduated from the Fruit and Wine Growing College in Silberberg with great distinction, carried on. Karl’s two sons Karl jun. and Gustav took the business over in 1997. Karl jun. is a business graduate and is responsible for logistics and administration. Gustav, having studied at the college in Silberberg like his father, and now a master grower, oversees the vineyards and winery, a function he performs with great flair and success. His philosophy is to only use the best grapes to make the best wines!
The Strauss wine estate, whose high-quality products are already well-known and widely appreciated beyond the region’s borders, is located in Steinbach, near Gamlitz. The enormous Gamlitzberg is the largest single wine-growing area in Southern Styria.
Vineyard size: 74 acres. Total production: 250,000 bottles.
The Strauss vineyards are located on ideal south-facing slopes with perfect climatic conditions and optimum soil properties, producing grapes of the highest quality. They call Styria the Tuscany of Austria!
